Tianshan Heavenly Lake

天山天池 (tiānshān tiānchí)

Heavenly Lake sits on form a natural highland scenic area surrounded by snow mountains and coniferous forest. 

In a shape of half-moon at an height of 1910 meters above the sea-level, the Heavenly Lake is just like a green pearl inlayed into the northern side of the Heavenly Mountain. With Heavenly Lake as the center, the Heavenly Lake and Heavenly Mountain Scenic Area comprises four intact and vertical mountain land landscape belts.

Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park

张掖七彩丹霞 (zhāngyē qīcǎi dān xiá)

Zhangye Danxia Landform area is known as “the eye candy of Zhangye”. 

Zhangye Danxia was formed by the erosion of red sandstone, forming isolated peaks and steep stratified outcrops. Its special geological structure, combined with long-term desert conditions , freeze-thaw peeling, and wind and water erosion gave rise to its present appearance.

When it rains, look for rainbows. When it's dark, look for stars.

Pingshanhu Grand Canyon

平山湖大峡谷 (píngshānhú dà xiágǔ)

Pingshanhu Grand Canyon is located 56 km from Zhangye city. 

It mainly composed of red gravel, sand stone, and mudstone which have gone through millions of years of tectionic movement, wind, and rain erosion, dissolution, river cut and gravitational collapse to form the colorful mountains with steep rock face.

Pingshanhu Grand Canyon is one of the world's five canyons, is equally famous as the Giant Canyon of the Colorado and The Great Rift Valley of the East African. 

The nature conveys the colorful mountains into incomparable and breathtaking pictures with its extraordinary creations.

Crescent Moon Spring

月牙泉 (yuèyá quán)

It's a state level site of historic interest and scenic beauty. Crescent shaped spring surrounded by Mingsha Hills where is deemed to be a wonderland for the everlasting turquoise and crystal water and co-existing of mountain, spring, sand, and water in harmony.

It is selected as one of five most beautiful deserts by Chinese National Geography.

Mogao Grottoes

莫高窟 (mò gāo kū)

Mogao Grottoes or caves of a thousand buddhas, is one of the existing largest world's art treasure houses. It has 492 grottoes, 45,000 square metre of murals and over 2400 painted statues.

Excavated into a mile of cliff face outside Dunhuang, an oasis town at the edge of the Gobi Desert, the site’s Chinese name Mogaoku means “peerless caves”.

The decorated caves’ walls and ceilings, are covered by elaborate  paintings depicting stories of the Buddha, Buddhist sutras, portraits of cave donors, ornamental designs, and scenes of social and commercial life.

Sometimes love is like a sand castle. You are aware that in the end it will be gone, but you enjoy building it.

South Mountain Pasture 
(南山牧場, nánshān mùchǎng) 

Urumqi South Mountain Pasture is a natural paradise with scenery and surroundings such as natural spruce forest on snow mountain. 

In the South Pasture area, you can see great mountain scenery, hike, and ride horses.

The most famous area of South Pasture is West White Poplar Valley, which is located between low mountain area and middle mountain area at an altitude of about 2,200 meters. 

Nowadays, the South Pasture has become a summer resort combing high land forest scenery and minority ethnic group life style.

Tianshan Grand Canyon 
(天山大峡谷, tiānshān dà xiágǔ) 

Tianshan Grand Canyon is located in Urumqi County, 48kms from the town. This area is surrounded by mountains on three sides and average altitude is 2020 meters with average temperature of 4-6℃. 

You will see the first core part of the scenic area, Screen Wall Mountain. It is a great cliff between two mountains with seven snakes mountains on the left side and green headed Daban Mountain on the right side. Because of enough sunshine and water in the river here, the whole Screen Wall Mountain always looks shining and splendid just like the screen wall in the houses of ancient nobles. This is the reason the name of Screen Wall Mountain comes. 

The other scenic area is Swan Lake Scenic Area. According to a widespread and romantic local story, the water in Swan Lake is the tears of lovers.
